The as yet unnamed Oklahoma Steampunk group of people met for the second time last night. This time, we met at McNellie's in Norman on a warm evening instead of a hot park at noon.
McNellie's is a nice place. Best of all - they know how to read! I saw several people glance at Itzl's ID tag and move on without comment. It's refreshing to go out and not be accosted and have to dig out Itzl's papers and the info card and show his tag as well as his ID card and get his ID card photocopied and marked by the employees and then get accosted by every single employee in the store and security attempting to escort me off the premises and the police getting involved and the police at least know what my rights are, so they tell them I am allowed in with Itzl, and then they still shadow me all over the place and make me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, but that's what happens every time I tried to shop at WalMart. It's happened (but not to that extreme) at other places, and it always makes me cringe when I need to go out shopping.
When I find places that treat me and Itzl as if we are one entity (and really, we pretty much are, we've partnered so long we're almost telepathic in how we relate to one another) and don't behave as if we're anything unusual, I tend to talk up those places and go back.
I plan to return to McNellie's and I hope the one in OKC is as pleasant as the one in Norman, because that's a really long way to go!
Anyway, it was a nice meet up, and we had a lot of fun. Artemus and Elisenth and Tyburn Blossom were there, everyone else having emergencies and obligations that prevented them from coming - or they were flat out no shows.
I appreciate the ones who RSVP'd and then contacted us when circumstances changed and they were unable to come after all.
Artemus and Elisenth are relocating to Florida, so this may be the last time we see them. And it's such a shame, for they are amazing people.
McNellie's is crowded on their $3 burger night - and their $3 burgers are outstanding - it's burger, with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions on the side and a side of fries. For just 50ยข more, you can add cheese or change the potato fries to sweet potato fries.
So we enjoyed an excellent meal with great company. We talked of keeping in touch. Elisenth and Artemus intend to remain on Steampunk Empire, which will make it easier.
And I introduced them to the concept of the Autogrpah Book by having htem autograph mine.
I do wish more people had been able to make it, it was so much fun!
Maybe next time?
