Elections today are much calmer than the presidential election was or any previous primaries.

The children accompanying their parents are much better behaved.

I don't mind so much that our security service sucks because I'm pretty sure they won't be wished for today.

Last presidential election and the primaries preceding them, we had the same security service we currently have (long contract - so sad), and there were times when I feared for the property and sometimes for the lives of some of the voters. Apparently, I have The Eye so unruly people careened off my desk and went outside without bothering me or Itzl. But I wonder to this day if some of those voters lived long enough to get home, they were so angry with one another, and one was so stoned I think he may have crawled under one of the numerous bridges and ODed after he left here.

The presidential election and primaries before those were a bit rowdy, but we had a security service that was dependable and trustworthy and they kept a close eye on the proceedings. When things started getting a bit rough, they simply showed themselves and that often defused things.

I can't trust the current security service to do that. If anything happens, I am fairly sure I will be on my own over it. If I call security, I know it will take him at least 14 minutes to get here. I've timed it when it was an emergency, and that's how long it took. Sad, isn't it, that I can walk from the fartherest building's top floor to here in under 3 minutes, but it takes Security 14 minutes running so hard he's breathless when he gets here?

If it's not an emergency, it takes him longer to arrive.

And there's always the excuses security offers up. I report an incident and the first words out of security's mouth? "I didn't do it!"

Other common excuses are, "It's not my job." "I didn't see anything." "I was busy." "I don't have to do that very often, so I forgot." "It's so-and-so's fault."

Sad, isn't it?

I'd feel better if security was at least eye candy, or friendly, but he's not. He's old, and slow, and not too bright, and hard of hearing, and eager to always blame someone else for anything - even things where there is no blame to be laid. He never offers ways to prevent untoward things from happening again. There's construction going on and the people in the apartment complex on the corner have been using the construction site and my office as a short cut to the bus stop and the restaurant. Security never noticed these people wandering aimlessly on the grounds and never questioned them when they wandered through our building.

Me, I pointed out the security cameras and asked them not to do it again. Then I talked to the construction chief and he put locks on the gates and it stopped. When security was told of the problem, he asked me what I thought he was supposed to do.

So, yeah, don't depend on security for help or back up or anything. All they're good for is unlocking doors and that's pretty much all I use them for any more.

I think their contract is up before the next presidential election and if so, I sincerely hope they lose the contract. Of the 4 security services we've used since I've been here, this one is the only one I have felt was - not well suited to our needs and environment.

Normally we have three poll workers, and I was told to expect five because of the increased number of voters expected.

Oddly, we only have two. One's a regular and a sweet heart. The other's new and learning her way. It's a Good Thing the election is going as calmly and orderly as it is.
