I suppose it's a good thing I know how to extract and make my own cold medicines. I've been lazy, allowing the pharmaceutical industry supply my needs for years, but I think it's insane to inconvenience people and line the pockets of doctors by requiring honest people to get prescriptions for over-the-counter cold medicines just because less than 1% of pour population abuses them.

The penalties for abuse should be much stricter, while allowing law-abiding sick people to just get the meds they need to feel better quickly, easily, and conveniently. We should not have to be treated as guilty drug abusers and suffer inconvenience and extra expenses just because of the actions and abuses of a minute portion of our population.

Truth is, restricting ordinary access to cold medicines isn't going to reduce drug abuse. They will find other ways to get what they need. They are already manufacturing meth that doesn't need the pseudoepinephrines that these laws are aimed at restricting. Drug abusers and illegal drug manufacturers aren't being incomvenienced. They will still get their illegal highs while the rest of us suffer in misery for days (a weekend, especially a holiday weekend....) while waiting for a doctor to write a prescription for a simple over-the-counter medicine.

If I'm miserably sick (not that I ever have been) or my child is sick (been there), I don't want to wait until morning or Monday to take care of it. I want to deal with it immediately. I'm very lucky in that I have the ability, equipment, and resources to do just that without waiting on some doctor who doesn't come into the office until 10:00 a.m. I can excuse that, most doctors do hospital rounds before going to the office, but it's still angst-producing to have to wait hours or days to get a coveted prescription for some that (right now, anyway) I can walk into any 24 hour drugstore and get.

Should lawmakers be stupid enough to pass laws requiring this, I will release my methods and recipes. Illegal druggies shouldn't be the ones benefitting from the law.
