We have rain. Torrential, flooding rain.

Almost all the routes to work this morning were closed due to flooding. A 20 minute trip turned into an hour long escapade with dramatic scenes of cars being washed off the roads and slightly less dramatic scenes of cars being trapped by rising waters as they wait at traffic lights, and passengers having to bail because the water is pouring into their passenger compartments, and less dramatic scenes of cars stalling out because the idiot drivers were going too fast and flooded their engines (I have no sympathy for them - better to go slow and safe and be late than not get there at all with expensive car repairs to boot).

There are home evacuations happening to prevent people from being trapped in their homes in the flooding. Businesses in low-lying areas are flooding out.

In the 30 odd years I've lived here, this is the worst flooding I've seen around here.

However, my house, in the little town where I live is both up on a hill and on the edges of the rain so it's not so bad there.

My daughter's new house is also up on a hill with her yard sloping slightly away from the house in all directions, so while her roof is leaking (she knew about it - flashing around her fireplace chimney that the roofers were going to get to after the worst of the hail damage was repaired around town), she's relatively dry and safe. The flooding started before she left to work and she was told by her boss not to go in because their office was flooded. It's in a really low-lying area near the railroad tracks that have flooded out all north and south through the city.

In the meantime, the roof here at work is leaking, too and the water's are rising up the cars in the parking lot.

I hear the rain is supposed to ease off around noonish, but we will continue to get rain until Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
