I've never considered myself trendy, but apparently, I am. Sort of.

I am engaging in 10 of the top 12 remodeling trends and I didn't even know they were trends!

I am remodeling my bathroom - it's 2/3 of the way done, but part has to wait for spring to be finished - the floors. I've decided against the forest floor type floor I wanted originally because it will cost over a thousand to do. Instead, I am mortaring in river pebbles for my floor - I already have the river pebbles, all I need is the mortar. Then, I need to finish off the wall and tub side - I want to get the floor in first.

I have long eschewed the minimalist white walls and have encouraged the use of colored walls in my home. I am in the process of re-coloring all the walls - pics are up on my facebook page. I do prefer bold earth tones - greens, blues, golds, reds.

I have always paid in cash. I gave up credit cards more than 20 years ago and never regretted it. If I can't pay cash for it, I won't buy it. The sole exception are really expensive things like a house, and that's almost paid off now.

I want to remove the wall between the kitchen and the workshop, making the wall space an island. And I want to take out the wall in the laundry room and make that space a walk-in pantry and laundry room. And I want to exchange the second window in the kitchen for a door into the back yard.

I've always gone as green as possible in the remodeling and decorating. Some day, I want to replace that nasty kitchen floor with a nice recycled rubber floor or a bamboo floor, although I think the recycled rubber will be more durable in a space that gets such extremes on it.

I've been working on the outdoor space, buying patio furniture and designing gardens and deciding which of several outdoor ovens and bbq pits I will build.

There are some "must-do" repairs and upgrades so I've already upgraded all plumbing and am getting started on the wiring. I was going to repaint the house during Thanksgiving break, but the weather conspired against us and so it will be done this spring. I already have all the supplies needed for it, just need the right weather.

As I've done my remodeling, I've been looking forward to the future and how the house will be used in 10 years, or even 20. I've tried to remodel so that future owners of the house will also find it useful, so the plumbing and wiring is advanced state of the art.

As for industrial flair and bronzing - I was steampunk long before it was popular in home décor!

Things I'm doing that are not on the trend list: edible landscaping, installing a home hobby workshop, planned self-sufficiency (or redundancy) by installing appliances and devices that can be powered manually as well as powered - alternate lighting, heating, cooling, food storage, food prep..., and planned entertainment space for more (and more intimate) home entertaining.
