Tonight is the Night of Writing Dangerously here.

We're going to gather at our ML's house to spend the night writing on our NaNovels. The library will probably be co-opted by those who need to nap (like me!).

I'm bringing extra surge protectors so there's protected room for others to plug in or recharge as needed.

I'm also bringing the ingredients for deviled eggs, yeast cake, tea, and coffee.

I'm not bringing a chair because I bought the ML a sofa and that counts as "bringing your own chair", doesn't it?

Over the past year, I came to several conclusions about my writing.

One: I love the month I take off to write for fun.

Two: I will probably never have the time to polish and edit any of the NaNovels I've written until after I retire so there's no sense in stressing out over writing them.

Three: I'm already published in non-fiction fields. I don't need to be published in fiction.

Four: Even if I do polish and edit them and get them critiqued and all of that, I will still probably never submit my fiction. I write because I must and because I enjoy it and I get all of my satisfaction out of the act of writing - during NaNo! I don't have to take it any further than that.

Five: I like the stories I write during NaNo - well, mostly. There's the one that I hated almost the whole way through, because I don't like writing mysteries and I didn't like the two main characters and I thought the plot was silly and surreal and I really didn't like that my brain churned it out almost without my cooperation. That little anagram trick it pulled annoyed me so much I won't even look at the story again.

Six: I currently have 10 very nice stories I've written as NaNovels and on December 1st, I'll have eleven. OK, maybe I don't like one of them, but that doesn't mean it's not an interesting story. This gives me plenty to do when I retire in re-writing them and playing with them. It's a hobby.

Seven: I like the Meet-Ups, the Night of Writing Dangerously, the Kick-Off Party, the Thank Gods It's Over Party, the swag, the people, the forums, the in-jokes, the Smoking Pen, the NaNoisms, the stickers and T-shirts and Tote Bags and all of the incidentals that are a part of the whole NaNoWriMo experience.

So, I'm going to revel in the Night of Writing Dangerously tonight.

Tomorrow, I'll buy new tires for my daughter, and attend the NaNo Meet-Up.

And I'll indulge in NaNowriMo every year that it exists just because I can.
