As a service dog, Itzl is willing to be flexible and go with the flow, except for his bedtime routines, which are engraved in lonsdaleite.

He goes to bed at 10:00 pm and wakes at 6:15 am. If I want to stay up later, that's fine with him, he simply zonks out in his carrier. But I am not allowed to sleep later than him because when he wakes he needs to potty. Lacking both hands and height, he can't open doors and if it's not raining or iced over, he wants outside to do his business. And that job is mine. At 6:15 am regardless of what I may have done the night before.

Except, for some reason, today he was off. He was anxiously up at 5:00 am.

Since he's spent 5 years reliably waking at 6:15, I got up, dressed, walked him and Xoco (who was still deeply asleep and needed coaxing out of bed), then packed my lunch and went to work.

And arrived more than an hour early.

I hope his routine is back tomorrow.
