Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know hurricanes are devastating. But the name just brings up all sorts of really bad puns and quips and images. I will feel bad about my thoughts if Igor is destructive (1) and I will certainly participate in aid to those displaced or otherwise bereft by the hurricane.
But....did the weather service really think it through when they named this hurricane? Couldn't they have chosen a less comedy-laden name so people like me wouldn't be giggling maniacally and making with the Igor lisp while helping out? Couldn't they have given a single thought to that sort of thing? It's so inappropriate to be acting goofy when you're hauling out flood damaged belongings and stacking debris or sorting clean clothes and bottled water. Quoting from the movie or Terry Pratchett's Discworld Igors and Igorinas (3) just naturally springs to my mind every time I hear the name of this hurricane.
Oh, what a trial it will be to remain straight faced and sober and serious as I should be during this.
(1) while harboring small "Igor's Revenge" scenarios in the back of said mind
(2) there are others, right?
(3)The Fifth Elephant, The Truth, Night Watch, Thud!, Carpe Jugulum, Thief of Time, Monstrous Regiment, Going Postal, maybe a couple of others I can't recall right now(a)
(a) Not the barman named Igor - he's not an Igor.
