I don't own an iPhone. I am not likely to own any type of phone, although I might be interested in an iPad type device someday. Still, this pleases me.

"...a user can circumvent the phone's functionality to use any legally obtained software.

The ruling also allows users to change the wireless service provider."

These are the provisions that make me so happy.

What right does a hardware maker have to control what software a person uses on the appliance. That would be like Toshiba determining what programs you get to use on your computer, or Magnavox determining what movies you play on your DVD.

Ditto for phone service. What right does a phone maker have to determine what phone service you use?

I bet a lot of people are thrilled, because AT&T doesn't have complete coverage of the US, so a lot of people who may have wanted an iPhone couldn't have one.

I wonder how this will apply to ereaders like the Kindle and the Nook?

If you don't have an account you can create one now.
