I think this is backwards.

Banks don't deserve our money.

We, and therefore our money and investments, deserve a bank that will respect our needs and desires regarding that money and those investments.

It's not about what the bank deserves. The bank will get what it needs if it remembers that it is a part of the service industry, and they are providing services people may need or want.
