Now for Why

They know who, according to this article. Now they need to discover why.
I can tell you that many times, when my children were younger and I called for an appointment for them, I was told to take them to the ER. This was during regular office hours and for non-emergency but still acute issues - a fall with a cut that would benefit from stitching but didn't absolutely need it, or a fall with a bad sprain that needed splinting and maybe an X-Ray to eliminate a break. I usually ended up taking care of it myself because these didn't really need medical intervention. It's just that the kids had health insurance and a primary care physician, so it was worth it to see if they could actually see their doctor.
What was the point of having health insurance if we never got to see their doctor?
Like many of the doctors in this article, I feel that primary care doctors will be just as quick to shove their patients off to the ER, if not more so, under the new health care laws.
We need to take care of this before it becomes an even worse problem.
