My daughter just closed on a house. She qualified for the tax credit and several first time home buyer grants. If she lives in the house for 5 years, she will not have to pay any of the grants back. It cost her less than $600 to close on the house, and she has grant money to pay for repairs and to furnish it.

For the first time in 27 years, she's going to be on her own. Her moving out for college didn't count because she used me as a permanent address and came home nearly every weekend.

Her house is bigger than mine and cost her more (but with a lower interest, her payments are the same as mine).

She's pretty excited, and will be taking her time moving. I will probably be helping her paint and such over the next month or two. And obviously helping her move.

Her father will have to help, too, as he has a pick up truck.

She's pretty excited. She's been working on this for several years, saving up money and searching for an affordable house in a decent neighborhood. And she finally found one.
