I applaud our courts for ruling this law unconstitutional.

Equally, I applaud President Obama for issuing a proclamation supporting this day while refraining from engaging in any public Day of Prayer activities. He is a Christian man and this proclamation acknowledges that. It acknowledges that America is composed of many people of various faiths, and he calls upon those people to give thanks for our freedoms and blessings and to beg guidance on our upcoming national challenges.

I don't know about you, but our country truly is facing some serious challenges. It needs all the help it can get - spiritual, divine, motivational, practical, mythical, and more.

I will conduct, for the 9 year, our own Numenist Day of Blessing on the state capitol steps followed by a picnic nearby.

Should the final ruling be to repeal this law, I will still hold our Numenist Day of Blessing at the capitol of this state on the first Thursday in May every year because I, as a Numenist priest, am not acting on behalf of a government agency or at the behest of a government law. I am doing this as a private citizen and a priest.

What Bush did, when he was President, was wrong, to publicly host any kind of religious service in the White House. What Obama is doing - issuing a proclamation to affirm the freedom of religion while refraining from public participation in related religious events - is entirely proper.

I do sort of wish he'd also issue a proclamation for a Day of Reason so those who don't adhere to a religious system would feel as welcomed in this country as the religious do. But since those who eschew religion are big boys and girls, I'm sure they understand the delicate sensibilities of the religious and how they need to be publicly acknowledged once in a while.
