I can see the sherpa's point of view here, but why won't they allow part of his ashes to be scattered over the Auckland harbor? That's not a sacred place and it would accede to at least part of Sir Hillary's wishes.

They could comply with part of the rest of his wishes by scattering his ashes along the path he took when he climbed the mountain so he could at least be integrated into the mountain he so loved even if he couldn't have his ashes on the peak he conquered; it would be no more disruptive or unholy than the bodies of the people who have died climbing the mountain that are on the paths and the mountain.

Keeping his ashes bound in an urn just seems so cruel to me.
