It would be so much easier to use one's own market bags, nets, and baskets if cashiers didn't automatically bag your things into their plastic bags, then roll their eyes and get all snarky when you try to stop them and tell them you have your own bags, thank you.

Even when you tell them before they start ringing up your purchases, they still plop the stuff into their plastic bags.

The only place that routinely asks if you have your own bags before they start, and are happy when you say "yes" is Target.

I'm used to it, of course, since I was raised European and have some market nets that are 50 years old (and still in good condition in spite of decades of use). I've been using them all these years and am pleased that America is finally catching up to simple, easy frugality. Should stores here start charging for bags, I'm already in a good place with a more than adequate store of them.

But stores are going to have to work on the attitudes of the cashiers and re-train them to be pleasant when someone brings their own bags.
