Yanno what?

I think he deserves it.

Not because he's Catholic and I'm Numenist.

Not because his wife is Jewish and he's Catholic.

But because he's being an ass about it.

Plenty of people manage - some with extreme juvenile behavior - to raise children both through divorce and differing religions.

This Reyes guy? Doesn't matter how devout he is. His devotedness is in doubt because honestly, flipping religions to suit his whims doesn't contribute to any pictureof devoutness. Even if he has "seen the light" and re-committed, it still takes time for people to believe it is permanent and honest.

That he's taunting (and there really is no other word for it) his former wife by sending pictures of their daughter's baptism when they (as far as she knew) had an understanding that the child was being raised Jewish is Clue One. That he continued the punishment nad taunting when he called the media to film him taking his daughter to church even after restraining order is Clue Two.

As far as I'm concerned, Reyes is abusing his religion to inflict damage - emotional and spiritual - on his former wife and daughter. I think his priest and bishop should call him on it. I certainly believe his priest should be counseling him that using religion to punish someone else is a misuse of the religion and is heretical and bordering on Satanic. If I were Reyes' bishop or priest, I'd be deeply concerned for Reyes' soul.

The daughter? She's a child and probably doesn't understand anything more than that Mommy and Daddy are fighting. There is plenty of time for her to decide what religion she will embrace (if any, after all this) when she reaches her majority. I believe children should be raised in the religion of the custodial parent's choice, however strict or liberal that may be.

I think what Reyes is doing is heinous because he's abusing a religion for the apparent purpose of punishing his former wife. That he is also hurting his daughter probably doesn't even occur to him, and that makes his behavior even worse. You should always know as many of the consequences of your actions as possible before you take them (there is always the possibility that something unforeseen will happen, and them's the lumps). I don't think Reyes is thinking any of this through. It looks as if he's doing it for the attention and to get back at his former wife.

He's being very immature and petty - not a pretty sight in a grown man.
