Thawmaggedon Commenceth
It has warmed up enough to begin the chancy process of thawing the layers of ice we have around here.
The Freezing Fog has made its debut and wreaked its destruction on overconfident drivers (several multiple car pile-ups) this morning. I know, we've had freezing fog earlier this year, but it didn't come with layers of ice then.
The melt is going through its glacial freeze/thaw cycle, converting soft snow to meltiness, then freezing it solid.
Footing has become hazardous even with ice cleats and driving is a time of extreme danger with treacherous patches of black ice hidden beneath the freezing fog and glare of headlights.
I wonder when Oklahoma became the midwest instead of the south?
I wonder what happened to our lovely 1 day gentle snows or hard ice? Oklahoma isn't accustomed to having snow or ice hang about for a week at a time. Our homes aren't made for it. Our streets aren't designed for it. Our cities aren't stocked for it.
And we're supposed to get more snow tomorrow.
Because I'm one of those insane "preppers", I am ready for this weather. I can keep warm and warmly fed. I have a shovel for the snow and carpet to lay over the ice (gives better traction). I can entertain myself and keep the house safely lit when the power goes out. I have enough blankets in every place I have to be, with food and water stashes in case I get caught away from home, as well as the emergency cell phone I can use to make outbound calls. Just because I can't hear over the phone doesn't mean I can't be heard.
Yesterday, our "weather bears" did not see their shadow, which presumably means winter is over.
If that's true, it is going out with a huge fight, like a toddler who won't go to bed.
