She did the right thing - hired a babysitter while she was away - and she may still be charged?
Yanno, that's just wrong. The mom is doing the right things - hiring a babysitter, taking parenting classes. She's not responsible if the babysitter abandons the children, and the children then raid a neighbor's house for food and toys.
Personally, if I'd been the neighbor, I wouldn't have called the police. I'd have had a talk with the mom about the crappy babysitter, and made some recommendations for better sitters. I might even have pointed her where she could get safe activities for her kids and maybe even shown her some games and things to keep the kids out of trouble and happily occupied. And I hate kids.
I think the babysitter ought to be held accountable for the kids' behavior while under his care, not the mother.
I wonder if the Red Cross in her area has a strong babysitter training and registration program?
