Yes, I've succumbed.

I need to earn more money than my day job and the erratic royalty checks provide (between budget cuts and a drop in sales, that's a significant loss of income) in order to save up the money to pay for Itzl's knee surgery and for the car I just bought to replace my beloved Hyundai that has hit the "I can't find parts for it easily" stage.

Itzl has health insurance and it's been very good about paying for things like the time he poisoned himself chewing on nandina leaves, his vaccinations, his vaccine reaction, the accident last January, and so on, but it doesn't cover knees in Chihuahuas. Apparently, knee injuries are considered "congenital" or "Pre-existing conditions" - the insurance paid for his MRI and X-rays and other tests to diagnose the problem and for his pain meds and other doggie drugs, but won't pay for the surgery itself. Itzl's knee surgery will be $1,500.00.

And since the car accident last January, my Hyundai has been slowly coming apart at the seams, it seems. Seals and gaskets are suddenly needing to be replaced, the clutch is going out, and it's just showing its age. It took three months to get one part for it, we had to rebuild the battery holder for it because I can't find a battery that fits it any more, and it looks as if it will start becoming a money sink very quickly, so I cut my losses on it and bought my mother's car from my sister.

So, yeah, I caved. I'm setting up an Etsy account in the hopes of generating enough income to pay for Itzl's knee and the car.

Things I will be offering on Etsy: Fairies in jars (I posted pics a while back of a few I made, I'll make more and post those pics), individual recipes for things like Gorilla Toe Stew and Snowfire Cookies, and small nature crafted ornaments. We'll see how those move before I commit to offering more things.

And while I'm at it, Amazon will soon be carrying the family cookbook, but it's available now at Lulu.com (ISBN: 978-0-557-18230-5). There's also my end-of-life book, the Practical Handbook of Dying and Death, at Amazon.

If you're interested or want to spread the word about these things, please do. As soon as I set up the Etsy account (after I make a few jarred fairies and take pictures...), I'll let you know where it is.

Thanks!
